It is the highest honor one can receive from TripAdvisor. And it is the result of a very high number of outstanding guest reviews posted over a 12-month period on the world’s largest travel and review platform for the Romantik Hotel Muottas Muragl. Only just under 1 percent of the approximately eight million business listings make it into this select group and are honored with this award for excellent hospitality. So it’s time to celebrate! It goes without saying that we’d love to do this with our guests—with a big thank you to the TripAdvisor community.

In 2011, Engadin St. Moritz Mountains was awarded the Swiss Solar Prize in the building renovation category by the Swiss Solar Agency in Geneva. The prize, which has been awarded annually since 2000, honors individuals, institutions, new construction projects, building renovations, and energy systems that meet particularly high sustainability standards. The mountain adventure operator also received the world’s only award for plus-energy buildings, the 2011 PlusEnergieBau Solar Prize.
The Muottas Muragl mountain hotel, which is over a century old, demonstrates that high-quality hotel comfort can be achieved even at 2,456 meters above sea level in a net-energy building. The Solar Agency specifically highlighted that, thanks to the expansion and renovation, total energy consumption was reduced by 64%, from 436,000 kWh/year to 157,400 kWh/year. Equally positively noted was the fact that the previous annual consumption of approximately 40,000 liters of heating oil and the 36,,600 kWh/year are now covered 100% by solar energy, and that CO2 emissions were reduced by 144 metric tons per year—a 100% reduction.

In 2012, the Swiss Federal Office of Energy awarded the Romantik Hotel Muottas Muragl the Watt d'Or prize in the "Buildings" category. Each year, the SFOE honors individuals and organizations whose exemplary projects and initiatives are paving the way toward a sustainable energy future.
