Vacation withLove for the Environment

The sustainable and responsible use of resources is the foundation of our daily work. After all, the breathtaking natural beauty of Muottas Muragl serves as the basis not only for our unique offerings at the Romantik Hotel but also for the diverse mountain experiences available at 2,456 meters. In 2010, our hotel was designated the first net-zero-energy hotel in the Alps. But we also rely on ecological and sustainable methods in our day-to-day operations.

Sustainable Energy Efficiency & Climate Protection

Engadin St. Moritz Mountains AG, Hotels, is committed to sustainable energy optimization and active climate protection. Since 2014, the company has been a member of the Energy Agency for Industry and is pursuing a recognized target agreement to increase energy efficiency and reduce CO₂ emissions. Implementation is carried out through defined measures over a ten-year period and is reviewed annually. For this commitment, Engadin St. Moritz Mountains AG was awarded the certificate from the Energy Agency for Industry (EnAW).

The First Plus-Energy Hotelthe Alps

In addition to a construction method that followed the principles and guidelines of the Minergie label, the “Plus-Energy Hotel” project took things a step further: The building was expanded from its original area of 1,700 m² to 2,700 m². Despite a 50% increase in floor area, energy consumption was reduced by 64%, from 436,600 kWh/a to 157,400 kWh/a.

Flat-plate solar collectors
On an annual basis, the building actually generates more energy than it needs, thanks in part to the solar panels.
Tube-type solar collectors
56 m² of tube collectors installed in the window panes of the ground floor provide the energy needed for hot water at the Romantik Hotel Muottas Muragl.
Photovoltaic Power Generation
Stretching 228 meters along the railroad right-of-way, Switzerland's most efficient photovoltaic system generates the necessary electrical energy.
Geothermal Probes
Sixteen geothermal probes, with an average length of 200 meters (for a total of 3,200 meters), supply the entire building with geothermal energy. If excess solar energy is available, it is stored in the ground via the geothermal probes. This allows the geothermal storage mass to regenerate.
Waste heat from the rail transit system's propulsion system
Waste heat from cooling systems, heat recovery from exhaust air, and heat recovery from the engine room are additional measures that contribute to the new building’s sustainable and environmentally friendly operation.

Eco-Friendly Cleaning with Micro-Dry Steam

Thanks to the Medicleantec Micro Cleaner, we clean in a particularly eco-friendly way at the Romantik Hotel Muottas Muragl—using only water, with no chemicals or harsh cleaning agents, and ensuring 100% hygiene.

How does it work? With Medicleantec’s micro-dry steam: The Micro Cleaner is a high-performance heat cleaning device that uses very dry micro-steam (only 5–8% water content) to achieve residue-free, hygienic cleanliness on all surfaces and materials.
